After years of waiting — and especially the exciting last months — Tesla FSD Supervised has received official type approval from the RDW.
Today, on April 10, 2026, history was written for European Tesla owners.
The RDW (Dutch vehicle authority) has officially issued the type approval for Tesla Full Self-Driving (Supervised). This is the first European country to legally greenlight FSD Supervised.

Only two days ago, Tesla released FSD v14.3 — widely regarded as one of the most significant leaps yet. Now this improved software has a legal home in Europe.

The KBA is considered relatively FSD-friendly. Thanks to the European type approval framework and the principle of mutual recognition, Germany has a realistic chance to adopt the approval relatively quickly — possibly within weeks or a few months.

Tesla is killing the one-time FSD purchase option worldwide.
After tomorrow, "Full Self-Driving" will be subscription-only.
⚡ What Happens on February 14?
On January 14, Elon Musk announced on X:
"Tesla will stop selling FSD after Feb 14. FSD will only be available as a monthly subscription thereafter."
- One-time purchase (€7,500 in DE / $8,000 in USA) → gone forever
- Subscription model ($99/month in USA) → becomes the only option
- Transfer to new vehicle → also discontinued
- Existing buyers → keep FSD for the lifetime of their vehicle
🇩🇪 What Does This Mean for Germany & Europe?
In Germany, the FSD option is listed in the configurator as "Full Potential for Autonomous Driving" at €7,500. Even though FSD isn't activated in Europe yet, customers could buy the option – as an investment in the future.
After tomorrow, that's no longer possible.
Tesla has changed the rules: Anyone wanting to secure a lifetime FSD license via the Tesla configurator or app has only today (February 13) left.
⚠️ Especially Critical for HW3 Owners
If you bought a Model 3 or Y before approx. Q2 2024, your car runs on Hardware 3 (HW3/AI3). And this is where things get really interesting:
- FSD purchase = potential gateway to a free hardware upgrade to HW4/AI4
- Subscription only? → Who pays for the upgrade then? Probably you.
- No upgrade? → HW3 may never be approved for FSD in Europe
- FSD v14-Lite for HW3 → expected mid-2026, but with limitations
Good news: The current software update 2026.2.3 shows HW3 vehicles collecting FSD Trip Weights in Shadow Mode for the first time – Tesla doesn't seem to be giving up on HW3 entirely!

In November 2025, Tesla publicly announced that the Dutch vehicle authority RDW had "committed" to granting FSD approval for the Netherlands in February 2026. The RDW immediately pushed back:
"Tesla is expected to demonstrate in February 2026 that FSD Supervised meets the required standards. Whether this timeline will be met remains to be seen. For the RDW, road safety is paramount."
📡 Status Today (Feb 13, 2026):
- No official announcement of approval or rejection so far
- The demonstration/review is likely ongoing or imminent
- Even if positive: first national exemption → then EU-wide vote
- Realistically: Summer 2026 at the earliest for FSD in the Netherlands
- Germany? → Could recognize the Dutch exemption, but doesn't have to
The pathway: Tesla is using EU Article 39 (exemption for new technologies). The RDW would need to grant national approval first, then an EU-wide application can be filed. Other member states can immediately recognize the exemption – or choose not to.
🎯 What Does This Mean for Buying FSD Today?
Ironically, the purchase option ends tomorrow – in the exact month the RDW decision was supposed to drop. If you believe in FSD's future in Europe, today is your last chance to lock in a lifetime license at a fixed price.

With OTA update 2026.2.6, Tesla owners in 9 countries gain access to xAI's AI assistant for the first time:

📅 CONTEXT: 7 MONTHS AFTER US LAUNCH
In the US, Grok has been available in Tesla vehicles since July 2025 (Update 2025.26). The delay for Europe is likely due to GDPR requirements and regulatory guidelines for AI systems in vehicle contexts. Tesla provided no further details.
The "Early Beta" label indicates that additional features – particularly vehicle function controls – are expected to follow gradually.
